The students will analyze and respond to poems, and then create a poem based on their family picture.


The students will analyze and respond to an anecdote, and then the students will write an anecdote based on their family history project interview.

The students will draw inferences on the sisters in Bread Givers. Also, students will infer main ideas; figure out how sentences and paragraphs relate; connect supporting details to main ideas; and determine how visual aids contribute to the author's message.

The students will demonstrate understanding and knowledge of the first unit.

The students will present information about immigration through various features and components of the Family History Projects.

DoNow (10 mins): Read and analyze the symbolism in two poems.

Activity 1 (20 mins): Quiz on Bread Givers chapters 2-5.

Activity 2 (10 mins): Review Bread Givers

Activity 3 (10 mins): Brainstorming for the click poem for the Family History Project. Show examples. Followed by a 2-minute free write based on family photo.

Activity 4 (25 mins): Writing Workshop – write a rough draft of the click poem for the Family History Project.

Exit Slip (5 mins): Write 2 questions you still have regarding the Family History Project.

DoNow (10 mins): Coordinating conjunction grammar warm-up

Activity 1 (10 mins): Review Ch. 6 and 7 of Bread Givers.

Activity 2 (10 mins): What is an anecdote?

Activity 2 (20 mins): Bread Givers “Sister’s” chart

Activity 3 (15 mins): Benchmark #1 review

Activity 4 (5 mins): 2 minute free write explaining their favorite work they studied in this unit and why?

DoNow (10 mins): Fill out information on scantron.
Activity 1 (70 mins): Benchmark test #1
Activity 2 (5+ mins): When finished benchmark, turn in for a scramble activity.



**PEP RALLY – Shortened Block**
